PRP Treatment in Baton Rouge

Fine lines, wrinkles, and improper skin texture are natural byproducts of the aging process. Many people struggle to correct these imperfections using all sorts of cosmetics products – some of which have unhealthy side effects.

Baton Rouge cosmetic surgeon, Theunissen Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, uses state-of-the-art technology to help his patients enhance their facial aesthetics. A leading provider of non-surgical facial rejuvenation procedures, our office has helped countless men and women reverse improve texture and give a glow to their skin. Plate Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is one of Dr. Theunissen’s latest advancements for the treatment of facial aging. This minimally invasive treatment is a quick and effective way to boost collagen growth for a smoother, fresher looking skin. It’s one of the most successful treatments for skin tone and scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, as well as sagging skin.

What does plate-rich plasma therapy treat?

PRP therapy can treat a wide variety of aging-related concerns, some of which include the following:

  • Facial aging
  • Scarring
  • Fine lines
  • Skin laxity
  • Hair thinning
  • Stretch marks
  • Dark circles under the eyes
  • Lip lines
  • Acne scars
  • Uneven skin tone

How does PRP therapy work?

This treatment entails introducing platelet-rich plasma into affected parts of the skin. The platelet-rich plasma contains concentrated growth factors that promote and support tissue repair, collagen building, epithelial cell growth, and skin regeneration.

Surgeons acquire the platelet-rich plasma by drawing blood from your body. This is then spun using a centrifuge system to extract therapeutic plasma. Dr. Theunissen will then use various techniques to inject it into the affected areas. PRP therapy is typically painless with no recovery time needed. Patients experience temporary side effects such as mild swelling and bruising at the treatment sites, but these dissipate after a couple of days. Results of PRP treatment usually manifest within 3-4 weeks and improve as the collagen regeneration process continues.

Who is PRP treatment for?

This non-surgical treatment is ideal for men and women who are looking to improve the appearance of their facial skin. PRP therapy works on all skin types and is completely biocompatible because plasma is drawn from the patient’s own blood.

PRP Facial treatment procedure

When patients visit Dr. Taylor Theunissen’s ultra-modern office operating room for treatment, they are made comfortable while their skin is numbed and blood is drawn. This process takes just a few minutes and the only side effect patients may encounter is a little lightheadedness. The surgeon and his team will then take the blood to a state-of-the-art centrifuge system where it’ll be separated out to get the PRP solution. The surgeon’s team will thoroughly clean your skin and ensure that the numbing period has expired. If all is okay, the PRP solution will be applied to your face using a micro-needling pen. Your skin may feel tight and look reddish after each treatment, but this goes away after a few days. Your cosmetic surgeon will provide detailed post-care instructions to make sure that you get the best possible results from the treatment.

What to expect

Dr. Theunissen recommends multiple treatment sessions to achieve optimal results. During your consultation visit, the surgeon will establish the depth of your skin imperfections and develop a plan to achieve the best possible outcome.
