FACELIFT BATON ROUGE, LA

Facelift Surgery in Baton Rouge

Over time, gravity, exposure to sun, and the natural aging process takes its toll on the face and neck. This results in the cheeks appearing to be flattened, along with a slacking jaw line, coupled with visible creases around the mouth. This laxity of the skin spreads to the neck area as well, where the skin starts to wrinkle, which makes a person look more aged than they really are. This surgery, which is also called a Rhytidectomy, is a procedure which is used to improve any visible signs of aging in the face and neck. A face lift, combined with a neck lift is one of the most common procedures that are used to restore a youthful looking appearance.

Despite many other alternative procedures and treatments that are available, having facelift surgery remains the preferred option to achieve facial rejuvenation mainly because it delivers much better results. Dr. Theunissen’s Approach

HOW YOUR BATON ROUGE FACELIFT IS PERFORMED

The technique used mainly depends on the facial condition of the patient. That being said, Dr. Theunissen generally opts for the most minimally invasive technique to restore a patient’s face back to its youthful and desired appearance. In addition, it is often performed with other facial surgeries to improve the overall outcome of the facial lift, such as blepharoplasty, neck lift, fat grafting on the face and brow lifts.

  1. General anesthesia or intravenous anesthesia is administered by the anesthesiologist
  2. Incisions are made at the hairline near the temples while extending around the ear and may extend to the lower hairline near the back of the head, depending on the amount of skin that needs removed
  3. Excessive skin is trimmed away for desired skin tightness
  4. Incisions are closed with sutures, dissolvable sutures, or skin glue
  5. Once healed, the incision points are discretely concealed by the hairline

DIFFERENT TYPES OF FACELIFTS

•   Traditional or Standard which is also known as SMAS (superficial musculo-aponeurotic system)
•   Mini-Lift also known as the short-scar lift
•   Deep Plane Lift – for heavily damaged faces
•   Cutaneous Lift – the skin only lift

Standard Facelift

During this procedure a long incision is made which runs along the hairline right above the ear, in front and behind the ear and into the upper neck hair. Then the skin is lifted towards the center of the face and re-draped. Apart from that, the surgeon will either pull the supportive connective tissue of the face upward or remove it partially to get the desired results. The degree to which the SMAS and skin will be manipulated varies and will be in accordance with the desired results. This is a great option for women who are past 45 years of age or older, and are seeking to dramatically improve their appearance by reducing wrinkles or tightening the skin on their neck.

Short-Scar Facelift

The short scar starts in the hair just above the natural hairline and stops at the base of the ear instead of extending all the way back to the ear like the standard lift. The best candidates for this procedure are women and men who want to refine their features, especially around the central and lower thirds of their face, and the areas around their neck and jaw line.

Mini-Facelift

In this procedure a short incision will be made in front of the ear. The skin is lifted and re-draped accordingly while the SMAS layer is also repositioned for a more natural result. This procedure is usually the best option for those people who seek moderate improvements to the central and lower regions of their face. This procedure may also include a neck-liposuction or an upper lid blepharoplasty.
