ABOUT THE FAT GRAFTING PROCEDURE

During this procedure, a patient will be under general anesthesia to make sure they are safe and comfortable throughout the procedure. A fat transfer procedure is usually paired up with other procedures such as eyelid surgery, facelift, browlift or a cheeklift, and mainly depends on the results that are desired by the patient. Each of the treatments can take up to 45 minutes or more, depending on the amount of work required on the area. The results will be apparent almost immediately, but will take up to 2 to 4 weeks to be fully visible once the swelling goes down. The time frame for a full recovery varies from person to person but a checkup after the procedure by Dr. Theunissen should give you an accurate time period of getting fully healed.

FAT TRANSFER FAQ

FAT INJECTIONS VS FILLERS?

The best thing about going through a fat transfer procedure administered by Baton Rouge Cosmetic Surgeon, Dr. Theunissen, is that there are no chances of having an allergic reaction after the procedure. This isn’t the case when dermal fillers (foreign substances) are used in this cosmetic procedure. Fat injections that use your body’s own fat, means that the body is able to recognize the fat tissue being used for the fat transfer procedure, even if it is being added to another location within your own body. This proves to be a more efficient procedure as compared to using dermal fillers, which are not able to provide any long-term effects.

IS THE FAST TRANSFER / FAT GRAFTING PROCEDURE PERMANENT?

In most patients who go through the fat transfer procedure, around 60% of the injected fat survives, offering a long term effect. That being said, the long term results of a fat transfer procedure is not totally predictable since these results vary from patient to patient. It is also important to note here that the fat which has been injected in areas of the chest can also be reabsorbed by the body in time and lose some of its volume. This is the reason why it is common practice for surgeons to inject more fact in the area that is needed during the fat transfer procedure. But again, the amount varies from patient to patient and only your surgeon will be able to determine the right amount of tissue that is needed for your fat transfer procedure
