Hebert Law Center and the E.J. Ourso College of Business, have earned national recognition. Louisiana State University is also recognized for its massive research facilities (there are over 800 sponsored research projects here) which are funded by the NSA (National Science Foundation), NIH (National Institutes of Health), NASA, and other agencies.
Outside of the classroom, LSU students can explore over 350 different student organizations. They may also spend their extra-curricular time exploring the important facilities nearby, such as the Hilltop Arboretum, and the Louisiana Museum of Natural History. For learning a thing or two about LSU athletics, fans may visit the free Andonie Museum. LSU Tigers university teams compete in the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) division. Some notable sporting alumni of LSU include Shaquille O’Neal, the four-time NBA champion.
LSU Tigers football program (also known as the Fighting Tigers) represents the varsity in football. The Tigers have competed in the FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision), the NCAA, and the SEC (Southeastern Conference). LSU has won 3 National Championships (1958, 2003, & 2007). The Tigers have recorded the 11th highest winning percentage in the nation, having played over 1,000 games. The varsity has had many players drafted into the NFL over the years. In 2016, there were 42 former players at LSU in the NFL, which is actually the biggest number of any college program.
LSU Baton Rouge offers various student services, such as nonremedial tutoring, placement services, women’s center, day care, health insurance, and health service. Security services are available on campus for 24-hours. These include foot patrols, vehicle patrols, emergency telephones, lighted sidewalks, controlled access to dormitories, and late night escort/transport service. Recent statistics indicated that 70% of students at LSU have cars on campus. Alcohol is not permitted on-campus, even for students of legal age.
LSU students are able to live on campus if they so wish. Obviously, this comes with perks such as easier access to classes, staying close to friends, and many more. It’s no wonder first year students who live on campus achieve higher grades. The university provides a range of housing options for its students, all the way from traditional residence halls to modern apartments. The varsity’s Student Union is centrally located within the premises, which means you can conveniently get there to attend a performance, grab a bite, get a hair cut, or just meet with your study group.
