TOP SURGICAL TECHNIQUE

In Baton Rouge, LA, you get to take advantage of the experience and expertise of Dr. Theunissen and his well-mannered, efficient and qualified staff and nurses who are always on call to offer their support every step of the way.

There are several types of nose job techniques which can be carried out to get the best results. The approach normally depends on the goal of the patient and the complexity of the procedure that is required for the desired results. The following are some of the procedures which can be used by Baton Rouge Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Theunissen, to improve the appearance of your nose.

CLOSED RHINOPLASTY

In this procedure the incision will be made inside the nose via the nostrils. The closed rhinoplasty procedure is extremely common when it comes to nose jobs and offers the desired results, but only when minor reshaping is the need of the day. There are no scars that are visible after the closed rhinoplasty procedure which is why it is often the best approach to begin with for optimal rhinoplasty results. But for other more severe cases, the open nose job technique will be recommended.

OPEN RHINOPLASTY

During an open rhinoplasty plastic surgery, Dr. Theunissen will make one incision which is on the tissue between the nostril. This offers a better view of the confines of the nose, which makes it easier for him to manipulate the bone and cartilage. Then the skin is peeled back and the internal structure of the nose is revealed and re-draped once the desired shape has been created. While there are incisions involved in this procedure, the scars will be tiny and not easily noticeable. Normally, this procedure leaves a thin scar of around 5mm.

NON-INVASIVE RHINOPLASTY

A non invasive rhinoplasty procedure includes the use of an injectable filler in order to achieve the desired results. These come in a variety of substance which are in liquid form. Fat tissue can also be utilized to fill a bony appearance. It is important to note that fillers can only do so much when it comes to the reshaping process of the nose. For most patients, surgery is a better option and will offer a permanent solution.

During/After Nose Job Surgery

The rhinoplasty is performed under the careful supervision of Baton Rouge Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Theunissen, under general anesthesia. The rhinoplasty is considered as an outpatient procedure and takes up to 4 hours. After a rhinoplasty, there will be some soreness or swelling around the nose area because of the use of incisions. Bruising can also occur as a side effect of a rhinoplasty. The nose of the patient could also be placed in a splint for some added support. The side effects will remain for at least a week after the surgical procedure and the splint will be removed. The patients will be able to see the results almost immediately.

Rhinoplasty FAQ

SURGICAL OR NONSURGICAL RHINOPASTY?

Whether or not a surgical or non-surgical procedure is used will mainly depend on the aesthetic results that are required as well as the nose structure of the patient. When a significant amount of reshaping is needed the surgeon will opt for a surgical approach in order to get the desired aesthetic appearance, while a non surgical approach will be used when only minor adjustments to the nose shape is required. During the initial consultation with Dr. Taylor Theunissen, MD Plastic Surgery Baton Rouge, the kind of procedure will be recommended after evaluating the patient’s nose shape, their overall health and other factors.

RHINOPLASTY ON BROKEN NOSE?

Around half of all rhinoplasty cases will include some form of nose breaking in order to allow the surgeon to reshape the cartilage and bone. This is primarily intended for patients who have nasal asymmetry. The broken bone or cartilage will be reshaped and reattached, and then supported by splints during recovery.

WHAT IS A NASAL PACK?

This is used when a patient’s nose starts to bleed. This occurs when the surgery involves some amount of septum in which case, cotton packs or gauze is used by inserting it into the nasal chamber during the process. While patients will find this to be uncomfortable, the packing is for their benefit and is only used during the initial recovery period.
